Environmental Policy

DSM Demolition Ltd (DSM) is the provider of professional services in the disciplines of demolition, de-commissioning, ground improvement, soil remediation and asbestos services including associated design functions for both the public and private business sectors.

Objective – It is the aim of DSM to continually improve its environmental performance and to encourage its supply chain to do the same, all in line with DSM’s Integrated Management System [IMS].

To achieve this objective DSM will: –

  • Comply, as a minimum, with all applicable laws, regulations and contract requirements.
  • Identify measure and monitor environmental impacts, and maintain an aspects, impacts and controls register in line with BS EN ISO 14001:2015.
  • DSM’s IMS is designed on a risk basis around the Plan – Do – Check – Act principle.
  • Apply the waste hierarchy to all waste operations to minimise the amount of waste and maximise the benefits from residual waste.
  • Monitor DSM’s carbon footprint, maintain a carbon reduction plan detailing progress to becoming carbon neutral by 2050 at the latest, and reducing the 2021 level of emissions by half by 2030.
  • Monitor and make efficient use of energy, utilities and natural resources.
  • Ensure work methods take account of environmental factors and include pollution prevention and protection of the environment measures.
  • Consider, and set targets for, environmental performance in all areas of DSM’s operations, including waste operations, resource use, working methods, selection of sub-contractors and purchasing.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, sub-contractors, suppliers and the local communities to reduce the effects of unavoidable negative environmental effects such as noise, dust, vibration and light disturbance.
  • Communicate and raise awareness of environmental impacts and performance to all its employees and where appropriate key stakeholders.
  • Provide facilities, equipment and training for employees, and where applicable, sub-contractors on environmental impacts, to enable them to discharge their duties responsibly.
  • Replace, where possible, the use of harmful materials subject to COSHH controls, only use timber from certified sustainable sources and ban the use of all red list compounds.

The environmental policy is endorsed by DSM’s senior management and is communicated throughout DSM by means of the documented procedures held in the IMS manual; in site documents, in staff and site inductions, in the employee handbook and displayed on notice boards. DSM’s environmental policy is made available to the general public on request.

Ultimate responsibility for environmental performance is that of the managing director with the day-to-day implementation and continual review being the responsibility of DSM’s quality & environmental manager and named deputies.
