Carbon Reduction Policy

Our commitment to achieving net zero emissions and reducing our carbon footprint through measurable, certified action

DSM Demolition Limited

As part of DSM’s accredited management system for ISO 14001 we are committed to continually improving our environmental performance of our operations in accordance with the DSM Integrated Management System (IMS) which is designed around the Plan – Do – Act – Check principle.

SME Climate Hub Commitment

We are committed to achieving net zero emissions and we have signed up to the SME Climate Hub which is aligned with “Race to Zero”.

Our Carbon Reduction Targets

We are therefore working towards ambitious, science-based targets

50%

Reduction by 2030

Halving emissions based on the baseline year of 2021

Net Zero

By 2050 at the latest

Achieving complete carbon neutrality

ISO 14064-1:2018 Certified

Accurate Carbon Measurement

Core to achieving carbon reduction is the accurate measurement of our actual emissions. We therefore have our carbon emission data externally certified to ISO14064-1:2018 “Greenhouse gases — Part 1: Specification with guidance at the organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals”.

Core Principles of Carbon Reduction

We recognise the profound changes needed to operating practices to achieve this challenging target. The core principles of our carbon reduction plan, in order of application, are:

Priority 01

Eliminate Carbon Emissions

The first and most important step is to eliminate the production of carbon emissions wherever possible.

Avoid Unnecessary Journeys

Use of Microsoft Teams and virtual meeting platforms

Efficient Vehicles & Plant

Use of more efficient vehicles, plant and equipment

Smart Control Systems

Lights on motion sensors and ambient light sensors

Renewable Energy
Electric Vehicle Charging
Priority 02

Reduce Emissions

Where emissions cannot be eliminated, we work to reduce the level of carbon emissions produced.

Modern Equipment

Use of modern, well maintained fuel efficient vehicles, plant and equipment

No Idling Policy

No idling policy for vehicles and plant

Journey Planning

Car sharing, public transport, and planned routes using active satnav to avoid congestion

Low Energy Products

Using LED lights and spray taps to reduce energy consumption

Alternative Fuels

Replacement of fossil fuels with bio fuels / HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil)

Electrification

Move away from hydrocarbon fueled plant and vehicles as technology develops

Priority 03

Offset Carbon Emissions

Only after elimination and reduction measures have been fully applied do we consider carbon offsetting.

Use as a last resort where elimination and reduction measures have been fully applied

Use only schemes that are independently verified

Where possible use schemes with some UK based offsetting

Transparency & Accountability

We make public, through our website and by issue on request to relevant parties, our carbon reduction performance in the form of a rolling five year carbon reduction plan.
